At the Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council (JAVC), we believe every veteran deserves a safe, dignified place to call home. Too many of our nation’s heroes struggle with homelessness, housing instability, isolation, mental health challenges, substance abuse, or the difficult transition back into civilian life.
Liberty Commons is our answer: a permanent veteran supportive housing community where veterans can live with dignity, stability, accountability, and hope.
Working with Selberg & Associates, JAVC has developed a concept plan for Liberty Commons, a planned 72-home veteran supportive housing community in Mohave County, Arizona.
Each home is being thoughtfully designed to provide veterans with safe, stable, independent housing while also connecting them with wraparound support services focused on long-term success, healing, and community reintegration.
Liberty Commons is designed to be far more than housing alone. It will be a community where veterans can:
We believe veterans often heal best in community with other veterans who understand the unique challenges of military service and transition. By creating a stable and connected veteran-centered environment, Liberty Commons seeks not only to reduce veteran homelessness, but also help combat isolation, substance abuse, and veteran suicide through support, accountability, and community.
JAVC has already constructed and operated seven tiny homes that helped demonstrate how stable housing and veteran-centered community can create real change in the lives of veterans experiencing instability and homelessness.
The organization has secured property for the project and continues working closely with city leaders, community partners, financial institutions, veterans organizations, and state and federal stakeholders to move Liberty Commons forward.
Recent support from the offices of Senator Mark Kelly and Senator Ruben Gallego helped advance the Liberty Commons Congressional Directed Spending request into the federal appropriations review process as part of a proposed $2.5 million veteran housing expansion initiative.
A recent generous contribution from Marcia M. Peterson helped provide additional momentum for the Liberty Commons project, and she has also committed support toward helping fund 2 homes within the community. In recognition of her generosity and long-term commitment to veterans, the 2 homes will be designated as the Marcia M. Peterson Homes.
With continued community support, partnerships, advocacy, and prayer, Liberty Commons is positioned to become a transformational veteran housing initiative serving Mohave County and rural Arizona for years to come.
Community members, veterans organizations, businesses, churches, and supporters can help make Liberty Commons a reality through advocacy, partnerships, volunteering, and financial support.
